Chester is the
hardest one. Honestly.
There are more agencies, more money and more established sites in Chester than anywhere else in Cheshire. I'd rather tell you that up front than take your money and quietly miss.

The Chester picture
Don't fight for 'web design Chester'. You'd lose.
Chester is affluent, tourist-heavy and commercially dense, and its businesses have had proper websites for years. It also has actual agencies in it, with actual teams, who have been building Chester links since before some of their clients existed. Any consultant who promises you the top spot for a broad Chester search in three months is selling you something.
That doesn't make it hopeless — it makes the strategy different. Broad, head-on searches are lost. Specific ones are wide open, because the big established sites are competing with each other over the obvious terms and largely ignoring the long tail.
In practice that means a page that owns one narrow thing rather than a homepage that shouts about everything. 'Emergency electrician Handbridge' or 'wedding hair Chester city centre' are winnable. 'Chester electrician' probably isn't, at least not for a year or two, and pretending otherwise just spends your money slowly.
The upside is that Chester money is real money. A Chester customer will pay for quality and can tell the difference — which means the gap between your site and your competitor's actually converts, in a way it sometimes doesn't in a town where everyone chooses on price. If your work is good, this is a market worth being patient in.
There's a second reason Chester rewards a better-looking site: an unusual share of the property here is listed, conservation-area, or period, and the customers who own it are unusually fussy about who they let through the door. Someone with a Georgian townhouse on Abbey Square is not choosing the cheapest joiner. They're choosing the one whose website suggests they'll take their hat off and put dust sheets down. That judgement gets made in about four seconds, on a phone, before you're ever contacted.
The tourism side is real too, and it cuts a specific way. Chester pulls serious visitor numbers year-round, which is worth a lot to a salon, a barber or anyone doing weddings — people searching cold with no local knowledge, ready to book, who will simply pick whoever looks most credible. It's worth almost nothing to a domestic electrician. Knowing which of those you are decides whether Chester is worth your patience at all.
Who this is for
Your trade isn't like the others. Your website shouldn't be either.
A plumber's customer is panicking at 6am with water coming through the ceiling. A salon's customer is deciding on a Sunday night whether you look worth the money. Those are different jobs, so they get different websites.
Straight answers
The questions everyone asks.
How much does a website cost?
It depends on how many pages and whether you need booking or a gallery. What doesn't change is that you get a fixed price in writing before anything starts, and it doesn't move unless you change the scope.
How long does it take?
Two to three weeks for a typical trade site, from the day I've got your photos and details. The bit that usually holds it up is waiting on content, so I'll chase you for it.
Do I have to pay monthly?
No. You'll pay for a domain (about £12 a year) and that's it — hosting for a site this size is free and I'll set it up in your name. If someone's charging you £40 a month for a five-page site, that's rent, not hosting.
Do I own it?
Yes. The domain, the site, the lot — registered to you, not to me. If you want to move it or hand it to someone else later, you can, and I'll help.
Will I actually come up on Google?
For your town and your trade, that's the whole point — and it's what most of the work goes into. But be wary of anyone promising you number one for a competitive search in a month. It takes months, and your Google Business Profile does a lot of the early lifting. I'll set that up with you.
What if I already have a website?
Then send it over and I'll tell you honestly whether it needs replacing or just fixing. Sometimes it's the second one, and that's a much smaller job.
